weskennedyPuppy play is one of the most common fandom-enjoyed kinks there is, and it's one I greatly enjoy myself! I'm obviously very partial to dog symbolism with Wesker and Leon (that will be further explored and expanded upon in my fic series) and I think that has great potential to carry on into their bedroom endeavors. I don't want to talk too much in reference to a fic that I haven't posted yet (though I may come back to this post to update it later!), I still would like to organize my thoughts on this subject because it interests me greatly and is a fun expansion on both Leon and Wesker's characters.
Obvious disclaimer that this isn't written with the intention to kink shame or otherwise make anyone feel bad. I'm just reflecting on my own thoughts on the matter! All kink scenarios are mutually consensual and are spoken about in the context of their pre-established relationships. NSFW content discussion, continued in-depth under the cut!
What bothers me about a lot of Wesker and Leon interpretations (as individuals as well as a ship) is a problem that expands beyond the Resident Evil fandom and seeps into every fan space I've ever been in: the plight of "So which one is the woman?". It might be a knee-jerk reaction to say "There are no women!" Which... sure, perhaps literally. But make no mistake, a lot (disclaimer: not all!) of m/m dynamics rely on one being the cold-hearted masculine top, the "real man", while the other is the submissive, meek, and vaguely-always-unwilling... man as well, in theory, but whose behaviors are closer to misogynistic stereotypes of a woman's role in a heterosexual relationship.
This is of course nothing new in fandom spaces, having existed since the dawn of time (and sadly remains) as a foundational fandom interpretation of all kinds of characters across all kinds of media. I deeply resent fandom's desire to put such vastly different characters into neat little trope boxes ideally fit for mindless consumption of tired memes and shitposts, but I won't waste time here complaining about that. It does, however, contribute directly to the problem I have with fandom interpretations of Wesker and Leon. I'm getting to the puppyplay, I promise!
I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this and figure out exactly who is slotted into which trope. Wesker, the cold, unfeeling villain would of course be crammed into the former, while Leon, the good-natured, sensitive protagonist is stuck with bearing the brunt of fanon Wesker's sexual abuse. There is genuinely nothing on this earth that bores me more than this described dynamic, no matter what characters it is, but it especially rings true with Leon and Albert, who I believe are fantastically complex characters that deserve much more reflection than just seme and uke (lol). In an effort to keep this post short, this is an egregious summarization of my thoughts on this massively extensive subject spanning themes of misogyny, homophobia and transphobia. Maybe I'll make other, more in-depth posts exploring my thoughts on this further, but in the interests of Weskennedy puppyplay, I must press on...!
As far as kink dynamics in fandom goes, they largely suffer the same fate (thus showing a complete and total lack of understanding for sex, power-play, consent, and much more). I literally feel like that werewolf shredding its shirt off image trying to resist going down multiple rabbitholes of side discussions that I think would contribute well to this post but I am trying so hard to stay on topic so... just pretend there's a lot more substance and context here than there actually is.
Getting to the meat of the subject, something I really love about kink is how it is so complex and vast, completely subjective to the individual. No two scenarios need be the same! Which is why I really, really wish that people weren't so narrow-minded about it! With puppyplay (or any animal variety therein), I most commonly see it presented as vaguely infantile, focused on degradation. I'm sure those renditions of it are popular for a reason, but when it comes to Wesker and Leon and how they would engage with the kink, I imagine it differently...
To me, the allure (including, in part, the eroticism imo!) between Wesker and Leon as a coupling is that they, however reluctantly, do understand each other. Does this mean they support each other's every move, or try to change the other? No. The tragedy of their connection is that they are both ultimately unchangeable, set in their ways and determined to accomplish their goals, their ways, no matter how destructive [to the self, or others] it may be. I think aspects of control, and power, are frequently given and taken between them (yes, between; it's not a one way street!) in the bedroom and outside of it, and due to the unconventional nature of their relationship, their sex might be pretty unconventional too!
I heavily resent whoever in fandom says that sex and the psychological aren't inherently linked. I don't believe you can write anything particularly interesting, subversive or compelling "with your dick" without also writing with your mind... sorry! For me, half the fun of sex in general is the psychology that goes with it! But that's another detailed post for another time. Wesker and Leon both work really well in either role if I'm being honest, but in the case of this certain dynamic, I prefer to have Leon take on the role of the "Dog", while Wesker takes on the... well, I know the typical answer to this is the "Master", but even with Albert's natural talent for being the one in charge, I see him as less of Leon's master and more like... another Dog... do you see my vision!
An older, worldly dog who understands how it felt to live in subservience to another, but broke free. One who gives that same power to his pup, if he chooses to take it. A dog that has what it takes to lead, but values the pup as worthy of his earned position beside him. Leon, conversely, knows his own power - puppy teeth are even more lethal than a grown dog's bite - but he savors connection, the silent, unstated one that they share in moments like these. Kinship, the binding of a two-dog pack. Leon prefers to be taken out of his own head, and (in certain scenarios) finds freedom in the surrender of control to those he trusts. While he may not trust Wesker to do right by mankind in their professional lives, when they are alone together like this, they are dogs, a pack. Albert does not betray the trust Leon places in him here. There is nothing stronger than the pack, after all.
And, of course, Albert enjoys setting the scene, prefers to be in control (though not necessarily topping; yes, there's a difference!) and is skilled at ensuring the needs of himself and his sexual partner are met. Leon and Wesker are generous lovers in different ways; I think Leon shines in moments that are very "spontaneously emotionally demanding" (missionary with eye contact), while Wesker's area of expertise is in the power of the "narrative scenario" (puppyplay and similar dynamics). Both "genres" of sexual encounter demand quite a bit from the two of them; Leon wouldn't quite know how to get those kinds of things going without Albert's imaginative guidance, but once they get started, Leon takes very readily to it and even finds himself requesting it frequently afterwards! And Wesker, despite his airs, is not so adept at feeling genuine emotional connection like he does with Leon, so something as "mundane" as missionary with eye contact would actually be just as emotionally demanding for Wesker as a kink scenario would be for Leon!
That said, with my own interpretation of their puppyplay, I think it would be less about Wesker degrading Leon as a position beneath him (which he undoubtedly is in), ie "you are a pathetic dog", but more about "you are under my guidance and control, and will obey (or disobey) as you see fit and will earn reward or punishment based on those actions"... does that make sense? Wesker is absolutely the one in control, but the means of control are substantially different than most fandom interpretations of the kink allow. Leon isn't infantile, he isn't unwilling; he is a dog, stripped of his human guilt and anxieties and operating primally, "kept in line" by Wesker, his authoritative dog-other... whose authority Leon may challenge, if he's feeling brave! What might that be like?...
Showing that smug old dog what he's made of, challenging his dominance, the mutt overpowering and outranking that arrogant pedigree... It would involve a lot of tension, heated eye contact and potentially rough play-fighting (biting, tackling, etc). If Leon willed it, Wesker breaking his [bratty] mutt into good behavior is exhilarating and rewarding for both of them. When they play rough, they can see the smile in their eyes beyond the thrill of the challenge of dominance... a confident pup challenging the authority of his superior, not necessarily to see him submit, but to give the old dog a chance to show off that power (authority, physical strength, dominance, etc) that the pup admires and is turned on by... to pin him beneath him and show him the kind of power he's bestowed upon him, a worthy successor in mastering (and, in some cases, dictating this shared pleasure of theirs.
I also think they would enjoy puppy upkeep scenarios too; "medical examinations", obedience training, Wesker brushing Leon's hair with precisely two hundred strokes of the brush... thoroughly bathing him, fitting him with an expensive custom collar (that Leon keeps on to indicate "softer" play, or refuses in favor of rougher scenarios) that suits his beloved mutt, his yielding pup, who covets his dangerous touch... a pup that's grateful for the scorned dog's tenderness; he may have earned it, but it makes it no less sacred. Leon wanting to use himself to please Albert, to use this carefully crafted scene to bring him to his peak of pleasure by his own hands (paws!). Nothing more gratifying than hearing that mean old dog howl his name as he adeptly pleases him as he was taught (however that may be), undoing him to satisfying end to satisfying end over and over again until his larger mate is left trembling, basking in the fruits of his own good training!
Not that I couldn't keep writing about this for literal centuries, but I have to wrap it up sometime! To briefly conclude, I think the vastness of kink is so fun to explore, and I like thinking about how Wesker and Leon would handle themselves in scenarios like this, not just what would be pleasurable for "the viewer", if that makes sense. I enjoy thinking about what they would think about in certain [kink] scenarios; kinks can (and should imo!) be bent around the characters, not vice-versa! I really want to post about things like this more, maybe this will be the first of more posts of its kind...? Idk!
