WELCOME
This is Dutch's Wesker/Leon/Ada blog, [mostly] dedicated to my ongoing fic series about them. This 18+ series will take place after the events of Resident Evil 4 [the remake timeline with some pepperings-in of the original] and before the events of Infinite Darkness and Resident Evil 5.

SYNOPSIS
Leon Kennedy returns to the United States after rescuing the President's daughter in Spain. During a romantic reunion with Ada a few weeks later, she recognizes lingering plaga symptoms in his eyes, under his skin... he should have been cured on the island. What happened?

Ada seeks out employer and personal confidante Albert Wesker to arrange a cure. Intrigued by the virus Leon is carrying within him and how it sustained itself so long after the supposed hive death, Wesker agrees to help Ada (and, by extension, Leon) as what he assures her is a personal favor... with his own goals taking priority, no doubt.

In order to save Leon, Ada must offer him up to the whims of Wesker's genius... and dark ambition. Her two worlds are colliding; Wesker is everything Leon seeks to destroy, the orchestrator of his misery, and she walks the line somewhere in-between. Wesker's influence imposes itself upon all it touches like a dark cloud, uncaring of the blight left in its wake. Ada used to think similarly of her own means of operation... until Raccoon City.

"Have you changed, Ada?" Leon's question had been haunting her since he'd asked it. Changing, staying the same, what was worse? Selfishly, Ada wants Leon to live. Death is not an option. It was time to play another dangerous game, but this time, she has a few aces up her sleeve. She knows the nature of the beast she's dealing with. In order for Leon and herself to get what they need, she can't afford to dwell on Leon's question. She'll need to play her and Wesker's cat and mouse games in order to come out on top, despite her metamorphosis urging otherwise. But Ada can count on Albert Wesker's nature to be as she's always known it, even during her own rebirth... can't she?
DISCLAIMER + NOTES
I have loved all three of these characters (and shipped them!) for nearly two decades now; I have a lot of thoughts about them as individuals, and in relationships with one another. This fic has been a long time coming! I fondly remember writing Wesaeon fanfic when I was in middle school after playing the original Resident Evil 4!

I'm just tossing this up here because I can't really think of a graceful way to do so without sounding pretentious (or something). I don't consider my headcanons any better or worse than anyone else's, but it's important to me that they come across as I'm intending. Also, any "definitive speaking" that I do on here ("Wesker feels/acts/thinks/etc this certain way") is in reference to my own headcanons/lore and isn't intended to come off as "authoritative" over anyone else's interpretations/headcanons. This tag is for any "out of universe" posts like [character, relationship, franchise] analysis, critique and so on. Thank you!

ADA'S INVOLVEMENT

While the main focus is the coupling of Leon and Albert, Ada is an equally valued part of the throuple, but comes and goes as she pleases. She is absolutely not a "third wheel"; Wesker and Leon both have unique bonds with her that are the foundational crux of their shared relationship, and her ties to both of them affect her own characterization as well!

That being said, I completely understand any wariness about Wesker and Ada in "romantic proximity" to one another; personally, I think their relationship is fascinating and complex and it frustrates me to see them watered down to racist and misogynistic tropes! Their throuple is dysfunctional and doomed, but it is one that will be absent of any kind of sexual or racial abuse. My series will not involve Ada enduring any kind of abuse from him (or Leon). I believe there are more effective ways of portraying Wesker's villainy without the use of these tropey (and, in my opinion, out of character anyway) dynamics.

WESKER'S CHARACTERIZATION

Wesker's character holds ties to eugenics ("Only a handful of humans truly matter. Everyone else is just so much chaff." is a eugenicist principle. Do with that what you will!) that is undoubtedly the result of his grooming by Spencer. While he doesn't speak so openly about this until Resident Evil 5 (or until this line in RE4R), it's still part of his character nonetheless; he chooses to perpetuate the deadly cycle he was unknowingly brought up in. His role couples with the overarching theme of the franchise being about the corporate greed of the [white] west and its affects on people of color, the poor, and other marginalized demographics that his villainy consistently terrorizes.

He considers all other humans to be fundamentally beneath him, so while I believe that he wouldn't target someone explicitly due to race, disability, sexuality or gender, the fact that he does perpetuate eugenicist rhetoric shouldn't be ignored, even if it "applies to all people" (He quickly slips from wanting to only eliminate some people to wanting to kill everybody. Either way, I think the sentiment still stands). I personally don't think he cares about the future of humanity in any capacity and I wasn't necessarily pleased with that aspect of his writing (I think he'd be very blasé about that kind of thing as long as he got to continue his research and "playing his games" as Ada says!), but it is part of his writing and it bothers me when people laugh it off or deny its existence.

While I intend to bring my own personal characterization to him, I do not seek to shy away from that ("woobify him") whatsoever. In my opinion, doing so does him a massive disservice; his villainy is integral to who he is. He is complex, and part of that complexity means exploring his character outside of "how many Evil Tropes can I impose on him for the sake of shock value?" There are times when he is playful, when he is tender. Maybe only for a small group (or duo...) of people. This doesn't negate his cruelty!

LEON'S TRAUMA

My characterization for Leon is a mix of his "original" and "remake" personalities; he's dry, sarcastic, and a bit flirty when he wants to be, but also deeply emotionally affected by the Raccoon City incident and working with the United States government against his will. He has a lot of hangups about that after the events of Resident Evil 4, where he's becoming more and more jaded each passing day. He's sensitive, emotionally intelligent and is determined to do the right thing... even if it means doing things a little bit outside of the law sometimes!
